The Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan is the largest national art museum in Tashkent. It was founded in 1918 as the Museum of the People's University and went through several names before taking its present one in 1935. The permanent collection holds several thousand works. They are divided among four curatorial departments, making it the best single overview of art in the country.
Best time to go: Visit on a hot afternoon, when a few hours indoors are welcome.
