About

The State Museum of History of Uzbekistan was founded in 1876 as the National Museum of Turkestan. It later served as the Lenin Museum, and its current building dates from 1970. The museum closed for renovation in June 2024 and reopened in July 2026. In the same month the building was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, one of ten modernist sites in Tashkent.

Best time to go: Allow a couple of hours, and combine it with Amir Timur Square a short walk away.
