About
Amir Timur Square is the main square of Tashkent. It began as a park laid out in 1882 during the era of Russian Turkestan, at the crossing of two main streets. After 1917 it became Revolution Square, and it held statues of Stalin and later Karl Marx. Following independence it was renamed after Timur in 1994, and his statue now stands at its centre. The Amir Timur Museum opened beside it in 1996.
Best time to go: Walk through in the early evening, then visit the Amir Timur Museum on its southern side.
