About
Artur Hazelius founded Skansen in 1891 to show how people lived in different parts of Sweden before industrialisation. Farmsteads, manor houses and a whole town quarter have been moved here, staff in period dress demonstrate traditional crafts, and a zoo keeps Nordic animals such as elk, bears and wolves.
Best time to go: Visit on a summer afternoon when craftspeople are at work, and stay for the views over the city.
