About
Founded as a Franciscan friary church in the thirteenth century, Riddarholmen Church became the resting place of Swedish kings and queens from Gustavus Adolphus onwards. Its side chapels hold ornate royal sarcophagi, the walls are hung with the coats of arms of the Order of the Seraphim, and its cast-iron spire is a landmark of the skyline.
Best time to go: Visit in summer, when the church opens, and walk round the islet for views over Lake Mälaren.
