About
Archbishop Wolf Dietrich built the palace in 1606 for his companion Salome Alt, and it was later remodelled in Baroque style. The geometric gardens, with statues, fountains and a hedge theatre, featured in The Sound of Music, and the Marble Hall is regarded as one of the loveliest concert rooms in Europe.
Best time to go: Walk through the gardens in the early morning for the classic view of the fortress beyond the fountains.
