About
Salé faces Rabat across the river mouth and has an older history as a trading and religious centre. In the seventeenth century its corsairs raided shipping far into the Atlantic. Its medina is calmer and less visited than those of Fez or Marrakesh, with craft souks, the great mosque and a finely decorated Marinid madrasa.
Best time to go: Cross the river by tram or boat in the morning and explore the souks before the midday lull.
