About
Formerly the Transvaal Museum, this institution holds some of the world's most important fossils of early humans, including the Australopithecus skull known as Mrs Ples, found at Sterkfontein in 1947. Its halls also display dinosaur skeletons, mammals and a large bird collection, while the grand façade faces Pretoria's City Hall across the street.
Best time to go: Visit with children in the morning, and do not miss the hall of human origins.
