About
Work began in 1344 under Charles IV, led first by Matthias of Arras and then Peter Parler, but the cathedral was only completed in 1929. Look for the jewel-encrusted Chapel of St Wenceslas, the silver tomb of St John of Nepomuk and a luminous Art Nouveau window designed by Alphonse Mucha.
Best time to go: Visit just after the castle opens, when the light through the stained glass is soft and the nave is quiet.
