About

The Ota Gate is the western gate of Itchan Kala, the walled inner town of Khiva. It was built during the reign of Allah Kuli Khan in 1828 and 1829 and is also known as the Shermuhammad Gate. It forms part of the World Heritage Site that covers the historic city. Most visitors enter the old town here, with Kalta Minor and the Muhammad Aminkhan Madrasah just inside.

Best time to go: Enter Itchan Kala through this gate in the morning for the classic first view of Kalta Minor.
