About
The architect Mimar Sinan built the mosque for Suleiman the Magnificent in the 1550s, surrounding it with schools, a hospital, kitchens and baths. Its vast, serene prayer hall is lit by stained glass, and the tombs of Suleiman and his wife Hürrem stand in the garden.
Best time to go: Come in the late afternoon and walk around to the terrace for views of the Golden Horn.
