About
Hoàn Kiếm Lake covers about 12 hectares in the historic heart of Hanoi. Its name means Lake of the Returned Sword, and it is also known simply as Sword Lake. Over the centuries it has carried other names too, including Green Water Lake for the colour of its water. The lake is one of the city's main scenic spots, and its shady shore is where Hanoians walk, meet and exercise.
Best time to go: Walk the shore at dawn to see locals exercising, or on a weekend evening when the surrounding streets close to traffic.
