About
The square grew from a Roman forum and later a medieval marketplace, and it remains the social centre of the old town on the hill. Tall shuttered houses, the old Palais de Justice and a flower-decked fountain surround it, and its cafés and bistros make it a natural pause between the cathedral and the lanes of the Vieille Ville.
Best time to go: Take a café table on a sunny morning before walking up to the cathedral a few steps away.
