About
The fountain began as a pressure valve for a hydraulic network in the nineteenth century, and its present form dates from 1951. Pumps drive about 500 litres of water per second high above the harbour, making it one of the tallest fountains in the world and the emblem of the city.
Best time to go: Walk out along the jetty on a calm day, and expect a light spray if the wind picks up.
