About

The war began at Westerplatte, just outside Gdańsk, on 1 September 1939, and this museum opened in 2017 to tell its story. The main exhibition lies deep underground and focuses on the experience of ordinary people, from occupation and terror to resistance and the aftermath.

Best time to go: Allow at least three hours for the underground exhibition and arrive early in summer.
