About
Built in the fifteenth century, the crane combined a city gate with a hoist powered by men walking inside great wooden treadwheels, used to load cargo and raise ship masts. It was one of the largest port cranes in medieval Europe and is now part of the National Maritime Museum.
Best time to go: See it from the opposite bank of the Motława at dusk, when the waterfront glows.
