About
Built from the eleventh century over the shrine of Florence's first martyr, San Miniato is among the finest Romanesque churches in Tuscany. Inside, look for the raised choir and the inlaid marble floor. Monks still live here and sing the evening office in Gregorian chant. The cemetery around it is peaceful and full of elaborate tombs.
Best time to go: Late afternoon: stay for the monks' sung vespers, then watch the sunset from the steps.
