Legend says Richard the Lionheart was shipwrecked here, and the island later belonged to a Benedictine monastery and to the Habsburg archduke Maximilian. Its pine woods, botanical garden, salt lake and swimming rocks make it an ideal escape from the busy town.
Best time to go: Catch an early ferry from the old port and bring a swimsuit.
