About
Built by the Incas above their capital, the complex is famous for its three tiers of zigzag terraces made of enormous stones fitted without mortar. It was the scene of a fierce battle during the Spanish conquest in 1536, and every June it hosts the re-enactment of Inti Raymi, the Inca festival of the sun.
Best time to go: Walk up from San Blas in the morning and allow time to take in the views over Cusco.
