Legend says Inês de Castro was murdered in these grounds in 1355 and that her tears formed the Fountain of Tears. The estate, now a hotel, has historic gardens with old trees, springs and a neo-Gothic folly.
Best time to go: Walk through the gardens in the late afternoon, when the light filters through the trees.
