About
Promoted by Count István Széchenyi and designed by the English engineer William Tierney Clark, the bridge opened in 1849 and helped bind Buda and Pest into one city. Destroyed in 1945 and rebuilt after the war, it remains the most graceful of the city's river crossings.
Best time to go: Walk across at dusk, when the bridge's lights come on and Castle Hill is floodlit.
