About
The Grand-Place has been the civic and commercial heart of Brussels since the Middle Ages. After a French bombardment in 1695 destroyed much of it, the guilds rebuilt their houses in lavish Baroque style within a few years, facing the older Gothic town hall and its slender spire. The ensemble is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Best time to go: Come once in daylight for the carved facades and again after dark, when the square is lit up.
