About
The garden was created for Ralph Allen, the entrepreneur whose quarries supplied Bath stone, with advice from Alexander Pope and Capability Brown. Paths descend a wooded valley to a covered Palladian bridge, one of only a handful in the world, framing a view of the city below.
Best time to go: Wear sturdy shoes for the steep paths, and look back at the city from the Palladian bridge.
