About
The name means milled rice, recalling the street's origins as a rice market in the old quarter of Banglamphu. From the 1980s it became the hub of budget travel in Southeast Asia, and today it is a noisy, cheerful mix of hostels, bars, massage parlours and food carts, busiest after dark.
Best time to go: Walk through in the evening for the full spectacle, then explore the calmer lanes of Banglamphu nearby.
