About
King Rama I built the palace when he moved the capital across the river from Thonburi, and it served as the royal residence for well over a century. Its courtyards hold throne halls in a mix of Thai and European styles, most strikingly the Chakri Maha Prasat, whose classical body is topped by traditional Thai spires.
Best time to go: Arrive at opening with shoulders and knees covered, and ignore anyone outside who says it is closed.
