About

Built in the early eighth century to store Buddhist scriptures, the pagoda has survived many earthquakes, one of which destroyed its top storeys. Its slender, tiered profile stands in the grounds of the former Jianfu Temple, and it is also part of the Silk Roads World Heritage Site.

Best time to go: Come in the morning and pair it with the Xi'an Museum in the same leafy grounds.
