About
Used by Portuguese monarchs for centuries, the palace mixes Gothic, Manueline and Moorish-influenced features. Its rooms are known for their painted ceilings, including the Swan Room and the Magpie Room, and for some of the oldest azulejo tiles in the country.
Best time to go: Visit in the afternoon, when the crowds have moved up the hill to Pena.
