About
The castle was built by the Moors around the ninth or tenth century and taken by Christian forces in the twelfth. Much of what visitors see today was restored in the Romantic era, but walking its battlements between granite outcrops remains a stirring experience.
Best time to go: Walk the ramparts on a clear morning, when the view reaches the Atlantic coast.
