About
The English merchant Francis Cook commissioned the palace in the nineteenth century, drawing on Gothic, Indian and Moorish influences for its domes and delicate stone tracery. The gardens gather plants from across the world, including a fern valley, a Mexican garden and huge exotic trees.
Best time to go: Come in the afternoon and give most of your time to the botanical gardens.
