About
Opened in 1937 and named after the collector Juan Bautista Castagnino, the museum occupies an elegant building on the edge of Parque de la Independencia. Its galleries trace Argentine art from the nineteenth century to the modern era, alongside European paintings from earlier centuries, and it is closely linked to the contemporary art museum on the river.
Best time to go: Visit after a walk in Parque de la Independencia, as the museum stands at the park's main entrance.
