About
Santa Teresa grew in the nineteenth century as a cool, leafy retreat for wealthy families, and its colonial and Belle Époque houses now shelter artists, restaurants and small museums. The yellow tram crosses the Carioca Aqueduct from the centre, and the views from its streets reach across the bay.
Best time to go: Ride the historic tram up the hill, then wander between the galleries, bars and viewpoints.
