About
The Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón began decorating the steps outside his home in 1990, and spent the rest of his life covering them in tiles, many sent by visitors from dozens of countries. The green, yellow and blue of the Brazilian flag dominate, and the steps have become one of Rio's most photographed places.
Best time to go: Go in the morning before the tour groups, and combine it with a walk up to Santa Teresa.
