About
Built in the sixteenth century, Kahal Shalom served a vibrant Sephardic community for generations. Most of the island's Jews were deported to Auschwitz in 1944, and the restored synagogue, with its pebble-mosaic floor and a small museum, now stands as both a place of worship and a moving memorial.
Best time to go: Visit the adjoining museum as well, and pause at the memorial square in the Jewish Quarter nearby.
