About
Built in the 1930s under Italian rule as a hydrobiological institute, the building is a fine example of the period's architecture. Its grotto-like tanks display fish, turtles and other creatures from the eastern Mediterranean, and it remains a working centre for marine research.
Best time to go: Combine it with a walk along the seafront at the northern tip of the island.
