About
Built in the fourteenth century and modelled on St Mary's Church in Lübeck, St Petri is the city's oldest building still in use. Its whitewashed nave houses a towering Renaissance altarpiece and pulpit, and a side chapel keeps medieval paintings that escaped later whitewashing.
Best time to go: Look for the painted Merchants' Chapel, which preserves its medieval wall paintings.
