About
Dedicated to the renewal of kingship, the temple was the destination of the annual Opet festival procession from Karnak. Ramesses II added the entrance pylon, colossal seated statues and a pair of obelisks, one of which now stands in the Place de la Concorde in Paris. The Mosque of Abu al-Haggag perches within its walls, a reminder of the site's long life.
Best time to go: Visit after dark, when the temple is floodlit and the colonnades glow against the night sky.
