About
William the Conqueror began the White Tower in the 1070s, and the castle went on to serve as royal palace, prison, armoury and treasury. Tours led by the Yeoman Warders bring its darker episodes to life, while the Jewel House displays the crowns, orbs and sceptres still used at coronations.
Best time to go: Arrive at opening and head straight for the Crown Jewels before the queues build.
