About
Hwangnyongsa was the principal temple of the Silla state, and its wooden pagoda, completed in the seventh century, was one of the tallest structures in East Asia. The whole complex was burned during the Mongol invasions in the thirteenth century, leaving an evocative field of foundation stones.
Best time to go: Visit the small museum first to see the model of the great wooden pagoda, then walk the site.
