About
For centuries the Claddagh was a self-contained Irish-speaking fishing community with its own customs and an elected king. Its thatched cottages were replaced in the 1930s, but the waterfront still gives classic views back to the old town, and the ring of two hands holding a crowned heart has carried its name around the world.
Best time to go: Cross from the Spanish Arch and walk out along the quay to watch the swans on the bay.
