About
Designed by the architects SOM, the Burj Khalifa has held the title of the world's tallest building since its inauguration in 2011. Work began in 2004 and the exterior was finished five years later, with a reinforced concrete core carrying the tower to 829.8 metres. Its observation decks look out over the desert, the coast and the grid of new towers that grew up around it.
Best time to go: Book a timed slot for the observation decks near sunset, then stay to watch the city lights come on below.
