About
The square was traced at the foundation of the city in 1573 and remains the centre of civic life. An equestrian statue of General San Martín stands among its palms and jacarandas, and around it the cathedral and Cabildo form one of the finest colonial ensembles in Argentina.
Best time to go: Sit here in the early evening, when the city centre fills with students and families.
