About
Building began in the late sixteenth century and dragged on for around two hundred years, so the cathedral mixes styles from its Baroque towers to its Neoclassical portico. Inside, a painted ceiling and gilded altars reward a visit, and the great dome is one of the defining shapes of the old city.
Best time to go: Visit in the morning, then walk around the plaza to see the dome rising above the arcades of the Cabildo.
