About
Opened in 1822 in the gardens of a Recollect monastery, the cemetery became the resting place of Argentina's elite, whose families commissioned thousands of elaborate vaults in every style from Art Nouveau to neo-Gothic. Its avenues of statues and chapels feel like a miniature city, and the Duarte family tomb, where Evita is buried, draws a steady stream of visitors.
Best time to go: Pick up a map at the entrance and wander the lanes in the morning, then find Eva Perón's family tomb.
