About

The Grand Splendid opened in 1919 as a theatre and later became a cinema, where some of Argentina's first sound films were shown. Since the early 2000s it has been a bookshop, keeping its painted ceiling, ornate balconies and red stage curtains, now framing a café where the performers once stood.

Best time to go: Browse on a weekday morning and take a coffee on the old stage for the best view of the hall.
