About
Aga Khan III, the leader of the Ismaili Muslims, spent winters in Aswan and chose to be buried here after his death in 1957. His mausoleum, built in a style inspired by the Fatimid tombs of Cairo, looks out across the Nile from the desert hills. Though closed to the public, it is one of the defining sights of the Aswan skyline.
Best time to go: Admire it from the river on a felucca trip, as the mausoleum is not open to visitors.
