About
Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi was a Sufi scholar from Murcia in Spain who settled in Alexandria in the thirteenth century. His shrine has been rebuilt several times, and the present mosque, completed in the 1940s, is a graceful work in cream stone with a tall minaret and domes. Inside, its arcades are finely decorated with arabesques and geometric patterns.
Best time to go: Visit outside prayer times, dressed modestly, on the way to the Citadel of Qaitbay.
