The Knights Hospitaller ruled Rhodes from 1309 to 1522 and left a Gothic town of inns, chapels and hospitals, later layered with Ottoman mosques, baths and fountains. The cobbled Street of the Knights, lined with the inns of the order's national groups, leads up to the palace, while the southern quarter is a maze of quieter lanes.
