The Casa Rosada took its present form in the late nineteenth century when two earlier buildings were joined behind a unified facade, and its famous colour is often said to symbolise a blending of rival political parties. Its balcony has been used by leaders from Perón to Maradona, and guided tours show the state rooms and courtyards.
