Built in the first century AD, when Verona was a flourishing Roman town, the Arena is one of the best-preserved amphitheatres of the ancient world. Only a fragment of its outer ring survived a twelfth-century earthquake, but the inner tiers are almost complete. Since 1913 its summer opera festival has filled the stands with thousands of spectators under the night sky.
Beste Besuchszeit: Visit in the morning when the stone tiers are empty, or book a summer evening at the opera.
