Al Ain Oasis is the largest of the city's oases, lying right in the centre of Al Ain. Its name, like the city's, recalls the spring that has sustained farming here for centuries. The shade of the date palms makes it noticeably cooler than the streets outside, and paths run between walled plots of palms. It explains, better than any museum, why a city grew up here in the desert.
